Running the Keys: Key Largo to Key West by Water
Reef snorkels, backcountry flats, and the harbor towns worth slowing down for.

The hundred-mile arc from Key Largo to Key West is a cruise in itself — a string of reefs, flats, and harbor towns connected by some of the most forgiving water in Florida.
Down the island chain
Begin at Key Largo, where the reefs of John Pennekamp offer the first great snorkel of the trip. Islamorada follows — the sport-fishing capital, with sandbars made for a lazy afternoon. At Marathon, Sombrero Reef and a well-protected harbor make for an easy overnight.
Then comes the run across the Seven Mile Bridge and into the backcountry: skinny, glassy water where the only traffic is a tailing bonefish.
Slow down. The Keys are not a place to rush.
By the time you raise Key West, you'll have earned the sunset at Mallory Square. Tie up, walk into town, and let the trip catch up with you.
