Red Bull Flugtag Returns to Miami After 10 Years. Watch It from Your Boat This Halloween.

Red Bull Flugtag returns to Miami on Saturday, October 31, 2026, bringing homemade flying machines, costumed teams, and what is always an entertaining day on Biscayne Bay.

It has been more than a decade since Flugtag was last here.

If you have never seen it, the idea is simple.

Teams design and build their own human-powered aircraft, push them from an elevated flight deck, and hope they fly.

Most don’t make it, and that’s part of the fun.

What Is Red Bull Flugtag?

Flugtag means “flying day” in German, although the day is usually remembered for the landings.

Each team can include up to five people. One person pilots the aircraft while the others provide the push that sends it off the platform and over the water.

The teams are judged on flight distance, creativity, and showmanship.

That last part matters.

These are not simply homemade airplanes. Over the years, Flugtag teams have launched flying cheeseburgers, sleighs, toilets, and just about anything else someone could imagine turning into an aircraft.

With this year’s event falling on Halloween, I expect Miami to take the costumes and performances to another level.

The Rules Are Simple

Every flying machine must be human-powered. No engines, batteries, or outside energy sources are permitted, and the aircraft cannot be prefabricated.

Each craft must be less than 22 feet wide and cannot weigh more than 400 pounds, including the pilot. The pilot must also be at least 18 years old.

The record remains at 258 feet, set by The Chicken Whisperers in Long Beach in 2013.

When and Where

Red Bull Flugtag Miami takes place at Bayfront Park, located at 301 Biscayne Boulevard in Downtown Miami.

The event site is scheduled to open at 11 a.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at noon. The final flight is expected at approximately 3:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

The event is free, and viewing areas at Bayfront Park will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you plan to watch from land, arrive early.

Watching from the Water

For those of us who experience Miami by boat, this may be the best way to see it.

Red Bull has confirmed that private boats will be allowed on Biscayne Bay, with viewing space available on a first-come, first-served basis. Controlled safety zones will surround the launch and landing areas, and boats will not be permitted inside them.

The exact marine restrictions may be updated as the event gets closer, so every captain should review the latest guidance before leaving the dock.

Expect a busy bay.

Keep a proper lookout, monitor the VHF, control your wake, and give the boats around you enough room.

The goal is not to get closest to the platform.

It is to find a safe place, enjoy the view, and share a day on the water with family and friends.

What I like most about events like this is that they remind us how much of Miami’s identity comes from the water.

Bayfront Park will be full. Downtown will be moving. Boats will line the bay, and teams will send months of work into the air, knowing it may end seconds later with spectacular dives.
