CONSTRUCTION

General:

• Modified-V, Planing type with flared bow, hard chines, partial keel and propeller pockets.
• Constructed in high-density closed-cell structural foam. High density foam allows for high temperature and advantages in thermal and acoustic insulation; high density foam cored topsides.
• Longitudinal and lateral fiberglass foam-core stringers.
• Fiberglass with infusion lamination manufacturing technology, increases strength by 20% and reduces weight by 18% compared to hand-layup.
• Reinforced collision bulkhead.
• Cross-knit carbon fiber in high stress areas to increase structural integrity and torsional strength.
• Water-tight bulkheads with sound and temperature insulation.

Deck Material:

High density foam cored FRP with textured non-skid surface. Teak decking is installed on the aft deck, steps to upper deck; upper deck; aft port and starboard side decks, swim platforms and transom steps.

Hull to Deck Joint:

Deck overlap type (shoe box approach), fiberglass tabbed internally.

Exterior Hull:

White Alexseal polyurethane paint on hull and superstructure, black boot stripe; custom grey hardtop and fashion plates.

Portlights:

Fixed hull side windows.

Bulkheads:

Athwartships reinforcement is provided by sandwich cored FRP bulkheads bonded to the hull and deck with fiberglass tabbing.

Stringers:

Hull stiffness provided by foam cored FRP longitudinal stringers and transverse frame grid system, all part of the hull lay-up.

Bilge:

Painted surface; 115 volt and 24 volt blowers installed as part of the bilge ventilation system. 

Stem:

Raked and curved stem.

Chain Locker (Drainage):

The chain locker is accessed from the foredeck through an FRP deck hatch with drainage overboard. The thru-hull drain seacock is in the water systems bilge, forward.

Transom:

Cored FRP with port and starboard passage, each with four (4) steps and stainless-steel gates with stainless steel inserts. An electro/hydraulic swim platform is securely installed on the transom and used as a dinghy lift. A watertight door is installed on the centerline of the transom for access to the crew accommodations and engine room. Stainless steel receivers are installed on the aft side of the swim platform to starboard for a removable stainless steel boarding ladder. The boarding ladder is stowed in the lazarette.

Stanchions:

Stainless steel stanchions and rail system run the entire perimeter of the vessel from aft deck to aft deck, port to starboard.

Bow Pulpit (Bow Rail):

Stainless steel is integrated into the stainless steel rail system.

Toe Rails:

Molded raised FRP toe rails and bulwarks, part of the deck's lay-up. Side gates are installed to port and starboard at the aft deck.

Ventilation:

Vents are installed on the house sides and side deck overhangs for the engine room, heads, laundry and bilges.

Scuppers:

Deck drains were installed in various locations of the main deck and upper deck plus drains in the FRP deck access hatch frames and through the transom passageways.

Chocks and Cleats:

Stainless steel fair leads with rollers on the aft deck to port and starboard; hawse eyes on the side and fore decks; foredeck hawse eyes with rollers, and bit type plus pop up type on the dinghy lift swim platform. 

Hawse Pipes:

Stainless steel hawse pipes run through the hull sides forward to port and starboard with stainless steel strike plates installed on the to port and starboard. The hawse pipes are equipped with freshwater washdown spigots.

Hull / Bottom:

Main Engines:

• MAN® V12 1900 HP @2300RPM turbo-charged engines. Port 965 hours | Starboard 957 hours
• Main engine beds are reinforced molded FRP longitudinal inboard and outboard with stainless steel caps. In conjunction, rubber dampened adjustable motor mounts are bolted to the beds and used to adjust the engine alignment as well as secure them to the vessel.
• Stainless-steel removable rails on side of engines.
• Automated Delta-T® intake/exhaust fans with variable frequency drives are mounted to facilitate the intake and/or exhaust of air through the machinery spaces and providing a high air exchange rate. Air intake & exhaust ducts have fire dampers installed with manual and automatic triggering which is tied into the machinery shut down circuits.
• Delta-T® moisture eliminators are installed at front of intake and exhaust ducts.
• Delta-T® fans for engine exhaust located on superstructure vs hull side. Maximizes water protection and salt spray intrusion into engine space, extending life of engine room components.
• Ocean Alexander employs aerospace grade “autoclave” to make “hard coat” exhaust. Further, AL-6XN alloys is used (also used in Saturn V rocket nozzle) for spray ring in exhaust system to lower heat transmission. Ocean Alexander is unique in utilizing Military standards that ensures optimum and sustained performance in its exhaust system.
• Engine raw water-cooling using cupronickel 90/10 which offers superior corrosion resistance and inherent bio-antifouling.
• Lube oil change system for engines, generators gears
• Red engine shutdown buttons on the engine control boxes and at the helm.
• Built in sound deadening insulation is installed providing running noise attenuation.
• Engine alarms are provided by the MAN MMDS CLC 6.5 engine monitoring system.
• Engine synchronization is provided by the Glendinning EEC-3 electronic unit.

Cooling System:

• Titanium plate core cooling with raw water-cooled exhaust and coolers.
• The seacocks and strainers raw water intakes as well as all thru-hulls connected to shut on/off valves are bronze alloy seacocks. Systems that use raw water for cooling machinery use bronze alloy Groco sea strainers with sight glass.
• Hoses and clamps are approved type reinforced rubber hoses with doubled stainless steel clamps, well routed and supported.

Transmissions:

• Direct drive; ZF, model: 3050; :2.592 : 1 ratio.
• Glendinning EEC-3 electronic throttle and gear controls plus corded remote for the aft deck and aft fly bridge deck.
• Cooler is transmission mounted raw water cooling.

• Fill pipe locations port and starboard house sides in lockers, clearly marked DIESEL with venting.
• Stainless-steel fuel piping system with well-marked fuel manifolds and fuel shutoff ball type valves.
• Fuel filtering is through four (4) remote mounted MAN PL 420 primary fuel/water separators and secondary fuel filters on the main engines.
• The fuel cooler is engine mounted raw water cooling.
• Fuel transfer through a 24-volt fuel transfer pump moves fuel through the Gulfcoast™ Fuel polishing system.

Windlass / Mooring:

• Dual (2) hydraulic Italwinch anchor windlasses w/ remote foot switches.
• Dual (2) 350 lbs. high-holding power anchors. The anchor’s 12.5mm chain consists of 250’ on port side, 400’ on starboard side, attached to the anchors with stainless-steel high-tensile swivels.
• Hands-free anchor chain wash system. Automatic operation for freshwater cleaning of chain during anchor operation.
• Two 1500W, 24VDC motor capstans on aft deck, with control switches.

BASINS, SHOWERS, HOSES AND CLAMPS:

The basins, showers and condensation drain into sumps located below the crew area, aft starboard stateroom and forward port stateroom. The sumps are discharged overboard automatically with submersible and gulper type 24-volt pumps.

• Two (2) 12-volt group 31 type sealed batteries located between the main engines, installed in fiberglass boxes with lids, securely fastened to the shelf, and nylon straps.
