Builder notes

American Tugs are built by Tomco Marine Group (American Tug) in La Conner, Washington, a respected Pacific Northwest boatbuilding hub. The company was founded around 2000 by Tom Nelson. The 41 model was designed by Lynn Senour (well-known for his work on Nordic Tugs)

Construction

American Tugs emphasize durable, seaworthy construction suited to coastal and offshore-capable cruising:

• Hull: Solid, hand-laid fiberglass (with gelcoat applied in initial layers). Built using precision molds; hulls often started in sections and joined. Integrated stringers and bulkheads for strength and noise/vibration reduction. Semi-displacement modified-V form with a prominent bow for good seakeeping.

• Decks and Superstructure: One-piece deck construction (no seams) for added strength. Resin infusion technology used for structural integrity and optimized weight.

• Overall Philosophy: Combines traditional boatbuilding techniques with modern engineering (vertical integration with many components built in-house). Rigorous inspections throughout. The result is a stout, reliable vessel with good longevity and low maintenance when properly cared for.

The wide 15’10” beam and solid construction contribute to stability and a roomy interior that feels larger than the LOA suggests.
