Description
Third Star presents in good condition, a 2002 Bavaria 44 built by Bavaria Yachts in Giebelstadt, Germany, one of Europe's largest production sailboat builders. This generation of the 44 was the first drawn by J and J Design, brought in to sharpen the model's looks and performance with a bulbed keel and a more efficient rudder, changes credited at the time with giving the boat a noticeably sharper look and better turn of speed than the model it replaced. Belowdecks she carries the roomy three cabin, two head layout the 44 is known for, including a forward owner's suite with en suite head access.
Under sail, the Bavaria 44 has a reputation as a conservative, stiff performer, tracking straight and true rather than chasing outright speed, the kind of boat that rewards a crew looking for comfortable, secure passages over club racing. Third Star is set up to make that easy. In mast furling on the main and roller furling on the jib mean sail handling comes down to a couple of lines from the cockpit, and the primary cockpit winches are Harken two speed electric, power assisted for grinding in a headsail without a fight.
Onboard systems have been kept current. A Raymarine Axiom multifunction display with radar and sonar overlay anchors the helm electronics, and two Cruisair reverse cycle air conditioning units, one forward and one aft, keep the cabins comfortable.
